Government Official States MoD Looking at Security Risk from Chinese Cars, with Staff Told to Avoid Confidential Discussions in Cars.

A defense minister has revealed that the Ministry of Defence is currently looking into the potential security risks associated with Chinese cars, and personnel have been advised to refrain from discussing secret matters in all cars.

Security Advice for Defence Staff

During a recently aired appearance on LBC, a defence minister commented on reports that Ministry of Defence officials have been instructed not to talk about classified material while riding in China-made cars.

The minister explained that the ministry is “looking into” Chinese vehicles within its fleets, but stressed that security is a concern in every contemporary vehicles.

Our department has a fleet of thousands of cars in the MoD and Chinese ones represent a very small number.
However whether you’re traveling in a vehicle from China or a car from another country, what we’ve asked our staff is to avoid connecting Ministry of Defence technology into their car, not to have discussions at a classified level in any vehicle, because of the increasing threats of surveillance that are present in every single vehicle, to only have those secret talks in secure locations. That’s a wise and reasonable thing for anyone concerned about security.

After it was suggested that it would be prudent for the ministry to cease using every Chinese vehicles, Pollard replied: ‘That’s precisely what we’re investigating at the moment.”

Wider Security Context

This announcement comes as claims from Norway and Denmark have alerted the UK to the presence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese electric buses, which could enable the Chinese government to switch off buses and bring chaos to public transit.

Furthermore, a Russia intelligence vessel has been shining laser beams at Royal Air Force aircrew, labeled a “highly dangerous” act by government representatives.

The broader security environment highlights the importance of robust protocols and vigilance in all aspects of official activities, including transport usage to discussions practices.
